Are you interested in serving on the ENVR Awards Committee?

Purpose: The Environmental Chemistry Engagement and Impact Award recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals or teams who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, creativity, and impact in advancing engagement in environmental chemistry and engineering. The award highlights efforts that connect research, education, and community partnerships to address pressing environmental challenges and to inspire broader societal understanding of environmental chemistry. The award recognizes impactful service to the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Environmental Chemistry (ENVR).

Description: One awardee will be selected each year. The awardee will receive a plaque and $2,000. The awardee is expected to attend and be recognized at the Fall ACS National Meeting.

Eligibility: Nominees must be members of the ACS Division of Environmental Chemistry at the time of nomination.

  • Eligible nominees include faculty, researchers, practitioners, industry professionals, or teams who have advanced the practice and visibility of environmental chemistry through engagement and impact-focused initiatives.
  • Activities considered for this award may include (but are not limited to):
  • Public or community engagement initiatives related to environmental chemistry.
  • Translational research projects demonstrating measurable societal or environmental impact.
  • Educational or outreach programs that expand access and broaden participation in environmental chemistry.
  • Efforts that inform policy, technology adoption, or sustainable practices.

Previous recipients are not eligible for nomination within five years of receiving the award.

Nomination: All nominations must be made by a member of ENVR. In addition, self-nominations are accepted and encouraged. The following information is required:

  1. Nominator’s name, affiliation, email address, and relationship to nominee
  2. Full name, professional title, affiliation, and email address of nominee
  3. ACS membership number and ENVR membership status of nominee
  4. Nomination letter emphasizing the nominee’s research achievements/impact and service to the ENVR division (less than 1000 words)
  5. First letter of support for this nomination (less than 1000 words)
  6. Second letter of support for this nomination (less than 1000 words)
  7. Nominee’s CV (up to 5 pages) with a description of their educational background, professional affiliations and positions, previous awards, publication list, funding history, patents, and service record (with priority on service to ENVR)

The nomination package with all the materials should be assembled as one pdf file and sent to the designated email address indicated on the nomination form.

Timeline: Nominations will only be accepted between August 1 and October 1. Please make sure that nomination packages are submitted as a single pdf file and conform to the organization and requirements described above. Late and incomplete packages will not be considered.

Selection: The awardee is selected from the eligible pool of nominees by a subcommittee appointed by the Chair of the Awards Committee. Subcommittee members must disclose any conflicts of interest with nominees. The award will be granted regardless of race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity, disability status, and educational background.
