Are you interested in serving on the ENVR Awards Committee?

Purpose: To recognize sustained and distinguished contributions to the field of environmental chemistry by mid-career and established investigators who are 10-30 years from graduate school or post-doctoral appointments.

Description: One awardee will be selected annually. The awardee will receive a plaque and a $2000. The awardee will be recognized within the ENVR division at the spring national ACS meeting.

Eligibility: Nominees must be in good standing and have at least 5 years of membership in the Division of Environmental Chemistry of the American Chemical Society at the time of the nomination. The intention of the award is to recognize contributions based on research record, outreach, and service to the ACS Division of Environmental Chemistry and profession of the nominee as outlined below.

  • Outstanding research record: Outstanding research record could be achieved via excellence in basic or applied research, publications or patents, commercialization of new technologies, and reputation in the area. Fifty percent of the selection criteria.
  • Contributions to the Division and Outreach: Outstanding Service to the ACS Division of Environmental Chemistry could include, but is not limited to, service to the division, contributions to governance, meetings (organization of symposia or major presentations), service in committees, initiatives within the ENVR division, outreach and service to the profession. Fifty percent of the selection criteria.

Nomination: Nomination package includes a nomination form, a full CV, list of the ten most impactful publications and two to three letters of support. Letters of recommendation are important in the selection of the award recipient. They should provide specific and sufficient information on the applicant’s contributions in both areas. More specifically the package should contain:

  1. Nominator’s name, affiliation, email address, and relationship to nominee
  2. Full name, professional title, affiliation, and email address of nominee
  3. ACS membership number and ENVR membership status of nominee
  4. Nomination letter emphasizing the nominee’s research achievements/impact and service to the ENVR division (pdf).
  5. First letter of support for this nomination (pdf)
  6. Second letter of support for this nomination (pdf)
  7. Optional third letter of support for this nomination (pdf).
  8. Nominee’s CV with a description of their educational background, professional affiliations and positions, previous awards, publication list, funding history, patents, and service record (with priority on service to ENVR, pdf)
  9. The nomination package with all the materials should be assembled as one pdf file and sent to the designated email address indicated on the nomination form.

Timeline: Nominations are accepted online only between June 1st and August 1st. Please, make sure that nomination packages are submitted as a single pdf file and conform to the requirements described above. Late and incomplete packages will not be considered.

Selection: The awardee is selected from the eligible pool of nominees by a (sub)committee appointed by the Executive Committee and the chair of the awards committee. Award committee members must disclose any conflicts of interest. The award will be granted regardless of race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity, presence of disabilities, and educational background.
