Nominations Open for the 2025 ENVR Rising Star in Environmental Chemistry Award

Nominations Due: August 1, 2025

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Environmental Chemistry (ENVR) is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the NEW 2025 Rising Star in Environmental Chemistry Award. This award aims to recognize early-career investigators who have demonstrated outstanding promise in research contributions to environmental chemistry and impactful service to the ENVR division.

Award Details:

  • One awardee will be selected each year.
  • The awardee will receive a plaque and a monetary award of $2000.
  • The 2025 awardee is expected to attend and be recognized at the Fall ACS National Meeting.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for the Rising Star Award, nominees must:

  1. Have demonstrated independence, creativity, and impact in their environmental chemistry research.
  2. Have participated in service contributions to the ENVR division.
  3. Be within the first ten years of their career as independent researchers, following their PhD or postdoctoral position(s).
  4. Have at least three years of membership in the ENVR division.

Nomination Process: Nominations must be submitted by a member of ENVR, and self-nominations are both accepted and encouraged. All nominations should be submitted through the Rising Star nomination form and must include the following information:

  • Nominator’s name, affiliation, email address, and relationship to the nominee.
  • Full name, professional title, affiliation, and email address of the nominee.
  • ACS membership number and ENVR membership status of the nominee.
  • A nomination letter (less than 1000 words, PDF) emphasizing the nominee’s research achievements and service to the ENVR division.
  • Two letters of support for the nomination (each less than 1000 words, PDF).
  • The nominee’s CV (up to 5 pages) detailing their educational background, professional affiliations and positions, previous awards, publication list, funding history, patents, and service record (with priority on service to ENVR, PDF).

Timeline:

  • Nominations will be accepted from May 1, 2025, to August 1, 2025.
  • Late nominations will not be considered for the 2025 award.

Selection Process: The awardee will be selected by a subcommittee appointed by the Chair of the Awards Committee. All subcommittee members must disclose any conflicts of interest with nominees. The award will be granted without regard to race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity, disability status, or educational background.
