The ACS Division of Environmental Chemistry (ACS ENVR) has created a program with up to two $500 ACS ENVR Graduate Service Fellowships to be awarded annually, one for each national meeting. The service fellows will be invited to help the executive board for up to 12 months, and are intended to get graduate students involved in the ENVR division. The fellow must be planning to attend an ACS National meeting, where they can assist the program chair in helping the meeting go smoothly. Other tasks may include aid in compiling updated lists of the Environmental Chemistry Programs and Curricula available nationally, compiling lists of grant opportunities, etc. These fellowships are intended to help build a graduate students’ network, give them an opportunity to serve for the division, and give them a glimpse into what the division does at national meetings. The graduate service fellow will receive $500 after the national meeting (taxes may be with-held, depending on applicable tax laws, which may reduce the total payment below $500). This money will be paid directly to the student, and the student may use the money for whatever they wish, including simply adding it to their personal savings, for example.

Students who are interested should send their CV/Resume along with a short letter of recommendation in a single file (pdf or zip) with filename as “LastnameFirstnameMMYY” where MMYY is their expected graduation date (month and year).

For the Fall National meeting,  please send materials between June 1st to July 15th to Christie Sayes at Christie_Sayes@baylor.edu with the email  subject: ENVR Graduate Service Fellowship Fall.

For the Spring National meeting,  please send materials between Dec 1st to February 15th to Christie Sayes at Christie_Sayes@baylor.edu with the email  subject: ENVR Graduate Service Fellowship Spring

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or otherwise authorized to receive taxable income for work. This is a requirement for tax purposes, since the money is not for educational expenses (unfortunately, many student visas are not compatible with this requirement).
  • Applicants must already have plans and financial support to attend either the Spring or Fall ACS National meeting, so that they can assist the program chair on-site. Travel support and registration are not provided as part of the program.
  • Applicants expected graduation date must be later than the national meeting, so that they will still be a graduate student for the national meeting which they are applying for.
